Charlotte Johannesson
Exploring a synthesis between the artisanal and the digital, Charlotte Johannesson’s work delves into how woven machine art can be replicated through digital means. Considering the vertical and horizontal screen pixels in the same way she would her loom, Johannesson has created a new set of rules for utilising tools to create art.
The mostly self-taught artist explores social and political topics of past and present to build her digitally woven images; feminism and punk, to the militant activism of the 1970s.
This new exhibition ties together the more prominent digital work of Johannesson with the more tactile screenprints, paintings and textiles that began her life’s work.
