Nestled in a quiet courtyard, amongst authentic Italian eateries and beautiful greenery, we explored the latest Maison Matisse collaboration with London-based designer, Faye Toogood. The Esquisses collection epitomises the organic lines and timeless style we associate with Matisse’s work - reimagined into furniture, rugs and blankets with a calming neutral palette. The eponymous design studio was established by Henri Matisse’s great grandson to build on the artist’s legacy and ‘joie de vivre’. Stepping away from their usual pieces, Toogood honed in on form, over the artist’s iconic colour play, to create pieces that practice fluidity, tactile texture and painterly pattern.
